S+C is very active in our local community
We are very proud of the time, energy and fundraising efforts we have been privileged to devote to help our community grow and to support its residents from all walks of life. Please explore the events below to learn more about the causes we care about.
Volunteer Tax Clinic
Beginning in 1969, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario (ICAO) has offered free tax clinics run by Chartered Accountants throughout the province. These clinics are made available to low-income households free of charge.
Over the years, many of our staff members have volunteered at a number of these tax clinics. Since 2008, the company has hosted the tax clinic at the Meadowvale Library located in the Meadowvale Town Centre.
Volunteering at a tax clinic for low-income households gives us an opportunity to work for people that could not otherwise afford our services and the sense of purpose this provides is amazing.
The Annette Silva Women with Drive Golf Tournament in benefit of Credit Valley Hospital Foundation
S+C Partners decided to discontinue hosting our own annual golf tournament in favour of supporting the Credit Valley Hospital Foundation by signing on as the Title Sponsor of their annual Women with Drive golf tournament. In honour of a very special member of the S+C team, the tournament has been renamed: The Annette Silva Women with Drive golf tournament.
Sadly, Annette lost her 3-year fight with breast cancer on September 10, 2011 at the age of 46. By participating in this event, we celebrate her life and her memory in support of one of her favourite causes: The Credit Valley Hospital.
Junior Achievement has been inspiring Canadian youth for over 50 years. Junior Achievement of Central Ontario reaches 75,000 students in 2,745 classrooms in Toronto, Peel, Halton, York Region and Simcoe annually.
Each June, we send volunteer teams to meet with classrooms of grade 8 students to deliver the “Economics for Success” program - which takes students through household budgeting exercises and reinforces the importance of staying in school and the positive impact of post-secondary education on income.
The Credit Valley Hospital
The firm has been involved with the Credit Valley Hospital for many years. The hospital’s close proximity to our office and the fact that it services our team members and their families has led to a mutually beneficial relationship.
The ties that bind us:
- We currently assist many of the hospital’s doctors with their tax compliance and planning work.
- The firm directed the proceeds from its annual charity golf tournament to the Foundation.
- The firm is a proud supporter of The Healing Cycle Foundation and its $1 million pledge to the hospital.
- The firm regularly participates in the Foundation’s annual gala and May golf tournament fundraising events.
- The firm supports the GTAA Runway Event.
- Kalin McDonald, CA was a director of the Credit Valley Hospital Foundation board.
- Annette Silva, CA was a past corporate volunteer of the Foundation board.
The firm met the founding directors of The Healing Cycle Foundation in the Fall of 2006 at a Roots of the Community Luncheon hosted by the Credit Valley Hospital. When we learned of their ambitious pledge of $1,000,000 to the Credit Valley Hospital for palliative care we knew that we have to spend more time with this dynamic group of people.
The firm submitted its first team to ride in the September 7, 2008 and has participated ever since.
