Credit Valley Hospital Charity Golf Tournament
In the winter of 1997 on the eve of the firm’s 10th anniversary, John Sidler decided that the firm should host an annual golf tournament in benefit of the Credit Valley Hospital. The decision to support the hospital was an easy one. Many of our team members lived nearby and were served by the dedicated and professional staff at the hospital. The purpose of our tournament was to foster a sense of team spirit and community involvement within our firm by raising funds for the Credit Valley Hospital in a manner that is fun for staff, clients and business colleagues. Our first tournament was co-chaired by Dr. Donald Black from the Credit Valley Obstetrics and Gynaecology department.
Our first four golf tournaments were held at Royal Woodbine Golf Club and raised: $15,800, $15,000 $25,000 and $26,000. The proceeds from our fourth tournament were earmarked for the new Peel Regional Cancer Centre and the “World Class, Right Here” campaign.
In our fifth year we affixed the date to be the second Monday in June and relocated the tournament to the Georgetown Golf Club which was later acquired by Clublink and rebranded Eagle Ridge Golf Club. In years five, six and seven we raised: $22,500, $22,500 and $27,500. The proceeds from these tournaments were also directed towards the Peel Regional Cancer Centre.
The June 14, 2004 tournament raised $26,850 and the cheque was presented to the Credit Valley Hospital in honour of two clients: Mr. Lenard White and Ms. Anita Aiello. The firm’s partners then committed to raising a further $100,000 for the Credit Valley Hospital to assist the Foundation in qualifying for a $1 million Kresge matching grant.
On June 13, 2005 our tournament raised $30,500 in honour of two clients who bravely fought cancer: Mr. Michael Joseph Dixon and Mr. Binke Meyer.
On June 12, 2006 the tournament raised $40,500 in the name of Ms. Audrey St. Onge who passed away in May of that year from cancer. To this day, the St. Onge, Flanagan and Soucy families continue to support our tournament. In 2006 our annual golf tournaments raised an aggregate of $252,150.
In 2007 our golf tournament honoured the pledge of the firm’s partners to raise $100,000 to assist the Foundation in meeting the terms of the Kresge matching grant. The tournament raised $40,000 on June 11, 2007 in honour of Mr. Terry Lane, the father of one of our team member’s Ms. Sheryl Lynn Lane.
Our 2008 tournament raised $40,000. On June 8, 2009 we raised $41,000, our highest amount ever despite 2 hours of steady rain at the start. On June 14, 2010 we raised a further $38,000, bringing our total funds to date to: $411,150.
We hope you will come out and support us again the second Monday in June! We can’t guarantee the weather but we can guarantee a great afternoon of fun, fellowship and contribution.
