Updates to CRA Direct Deposit Guidelines

Friday June 6, 2025

As of March 24, 2025, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) will no longer accept direct deposit enrolments or changes made by telephone or through EFILE tax software. This change is part of the CRA’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the security of taxpayer accounts.

Taxpayers can enroll in or update direct deposit information through one of the following methods:

  • Sign in to your CRA My Account to manage direct deposits securely;
  • Through your Canadian bank or credit union; and
  • Download the direct deposit enrolment form available on the Canada.ca website and
    submit the completed form by mail. If submitting the form with a paper return, you must include either a void cheque or bank draft stamp; otherwise, the enrolment form will be
    rejected.

Individuals and legal representatives can also update direct deposit information by signing into their CRA My Account or through their financial institution.
